I would have thought that the “OS” / firmware would be installed on a chip on the chassis somewhere instead of it being on the hard drive itself. I went and a bit of research and due to the fact that the new drive doesn’t have an “OS “ / firmware installed on, it doesn’t pick it up. I was looking at the new IoMega StorCenter's that are certified with VMware for storage, but the reviews were terrible. I'm not going to get into specifics on how to install FreeNAS, there are hundreds of other websites out there to explain that.
